The European Spice Association (ESA) represents the interests of its members vis-à-vis the competent bodies and departments of the European Union as well as international institutions and organisations.
It is important for Santa Maria to have an impact on and influence spice quality at the European and global level while also working for a sustainable supply chain, which is why we have chosen to be a member of ESA.
An example of how ESA helps improve spice quality is a guidebook, developed in cooperation with various international organisations, to inform spice growers in the countries of origin. The guidebook provides practical guidance on what farmers should take into account, and what they should do to maintain high quality and ensure that the products contain no undesirable substances.
